Corporate Clown Workshops
About Corporate Clown Workshops
Corporate Clown is a London-based workplace training company providing experiential workshops for teams and leaders using clowning and embodied practice.
Our workshops use play, physical exercises, failure, attention, and responsiveness to work on communication, trust, collaboration, creativity, resilience, presence, risk-taking, and team dynamics.
We work with companies, organisations, leadership teams, and groups brought together by HR, People, and Learning & Development teams. Workshops are tailored to the needs of each group and can be delivered in London, across the UK, and internationally.
About Corporate Clown
What is Corporate Clown?
Corporate Clown is a workplace training practice that uses techniques drawn from professional clowning, physical theatre, devised theatre, improvisation, and embodied practice.
It is not about teaching people to perform or be funny. The work uses play and physical exercises to explore how people communicate, collaborate, take risks, respond to failure, and relate to one another.
What is a corporate clowning workshop?
A Corporate Clown workshop is an experiential workplace workshop in which participants learn by doing rather than by sitting through presentations or discussing abstract models.
Participants work individually, in pairs, and as a group through structured exercises involving play, attention, movement, responsiveness, failure, and connection. Exercises are introduced progressively and adapted to the particular group.
No clowning, theatre, or performance experience is required.
Who are Corporate Clown workshops for?
We work with teams, existing and emerging leaders, leadership groups, and organisations across sectors.
Workshops can be commissioned by HR, People & Culture, Learning & Development, organisational development, leadership, and individual team leads.
The work can be adapted for different levels of seniority, organisational contexts, group sizes, and levels of confidence or experience.
Clowning at Work
Why use clowning in the workplace?
Clowning creates an unusual but structured environment in which many of the behaviours that affect how people work together become visible.
Participants encounter uncertainty, mistakes, self-consciousness, attention, risk, and other people in real time. Rather than discussing these behaviours hypothetically, they have an opportunity to experience them and try different responses.
Clowning also introduces play into environments where people are often accustomed to managing perception, avoiding mistakes, and operating primarily cognitively. Play can increase attention to the present moment, reduce inhibition, and create new possibilities for connection and experimentation.
Is Corporate Clown performance training?
No. Our workshops do not teach people to perform. They use practices developed within clowning and physical theatre to explore how people operate.
At its simplest, clown is you at your most playful, vulnerable, and responsive. It is not about being funny, though that is often the effect. It is about being honest in your body, in the moment, and with other people.
How is Corporate Clown different from improv training?
Clowning and improvisation share an interest in spontaneity, play, and responsiveness, but they are not the same practice.
Where improv often rewards speed, invention, and the ability to build a scene, our clowning practice places particular emphasis on presence, vulnerability, physical responsiveness, failure, and the relationship between the individual and the group.
The objective is not to become a better performer. It is to become more attentive to yourself, other people, and what is actually happening in the room.
How is Corporate Clown different from conventional team building?
Corporate Clown is team building, but not simply an activity designed to entertain a group or give colleagues an enjoyable day together.
The exercises create practical situations in which teams can explore trust, communication, collaboration, risk, failure, creativity, and responsiveness as they happen.
The experience is playful and often very funny, but the play has a methodology behind it.
Teams, Leadership & Work
What can a Corporate Clown workshop work on?
Every workshop is tailored to the needs of the group. Areas we can work with include:
Communication
Trust
Collaboration
Creativity
Presence
Listening
Risk-taking
Failure
Resilience
Adaptability
Self-consciousness and inhibition
Team dynamics
Leadership
Connection
The format determines the depth and structure of the work. The needs of the team determine what we work on.
How can clowning improve team communication and collaboration?
Clowning requires people to pay close attention to one another, notice what is happening in real time, and respond rather than simply execute a predetermined plan.
The work can expose habits such as withdrawing, overcompensating, controlling, anticipating, or failing to listen. Participants can then experiment with different ways of responding within a structured and supportive environment.
This develops shared attention and responsiveness, both of which are fundamental to effective communication and collaboration.
Why does Corporate Clown work with failure?
In many professional environments, people learn to minimise mistakes and manage how they are perceived when something goes wrong.
Our methodology deliberately changes the relationship to failure. When something does not work, failure can be acknowledged, shared, and moved through rather than hidden.
Treating failure without shame reduces the personal stakes of getting something wrong. This can make people more willing to experiment, contribute ideas, take appropriate risks, recover, and try again.
How does clowning encourage creativity and risk-taking?
Creative work requires people to act without knowing exactly what the outcome will be.
Clowning creates repeated opportunities to follow an impulse, test something, discover that it does not work, adapt, and continue. By reducing the shame associated with failure, participants can become less inhibited and more willing to experiment.
The aim is not recklessness. It is greater freedom to act when certainty is unavailable.
Can Corporate Clown be used for leadership development?
Yes. We work with existing and emerging leaders, as well as leadership teams.
Leadership workshops can explore presence, listening, adaptability, communication, risk, vulnerability, responsiveness, and how leaders behave when they cannot completely control an outcome.
The work can also reveal how a leader takes up space, makes space for others, responds to mistakes, and affects the dynamics of a group.
What does embodiment have to do with workplace training?
Many professional environments privilege cognitive and verbal forms of working. Embodied practice brings attention back to physical information such as impulse, timing, energy, attention, movement, and responsiveness.
Working through the body gives participants another way to notice how they react to other people and to uncertainty.
Corporate Clown uses embodiment alongside reflection, helping participants connect what happens during an exercise with how they operate at work.
Participation & Access
Do I need to be funny?
No.
There is no expectation that participants will tell jokes, perform comedy, or try to make other people laugh.
Humour frequently emerges from clowning, but it is a consequence of presence, play, vulnerability, and shared experience rather than the objective of the exercise.
Do I need performance or theatre experience?
No. No performance, theatre, improvisation, or clowning experience is required.
Our workshops are designed for people with different levels of experience, confidence, and comfort with performance.
What if someone is shy or self-conscious?
Being confident or extroverted is not a prerequisite for participating.
In fact, self-consciousness and the ways people protect themselves from feeling exposed are part of what clowning can explore.
Exercises build progressively, and participation is invitational rather than forced. The purpose is not to put individuals on the spot or humiliate them.
Are Corporate Clown workshops accessible and inclusive?
We design our workshops to be welcoming and adaptable to different bodies, abilities, communication styles, levels of confidence, and experience.
Exercises can be adjusted around individual access requirements. We encourage organisations to discuss access needs with us before the workshop so that these can be considered when the session is designed.
